Manna Dey in spotlight
The presence of living legend of Bangla song Manna Dey overwhelmed the crowd at the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela yesterday. The visit of such renowned personality tinted glamour to the book fair.
He unveiled covers of two books by Lipi Manwar titled Dushtu Cheler Dol from Miazi publications and a poetry collection titled Shapnabilashi Mon from Alpana prokashana amid a brief ceremony at the fair premises.
During the unveiling ceremony, he said the huge crowd at the fair reflects the love of Bangalees for their language. It has been the life stream of the Bangla songs over the centuries.
A group of at least eight poets from Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai also visited the Ekushey Boi Mela yesterday.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,584 new titles have so far arrived at the Amar Ekusehy Boi Mela from February 1 and around 1500 more new titles are expected till the end, February 28.
“We are expecting the number of new titles to exceed 3, 000 by the end of the fair," Anwar Mushid, Bangla Academy Public Relation Officer told The Daily Star.
Eminent writer Selina Hossain, Jatin Sarker and Shahriar Kabir unveiled the cover of a book titled General Matin-er Shadhinatar Itihash Bikritir Itikatha by Ali Akbar Tabi from Aamader Mati Prokashani at the fair premises.
A total of 88 new titles arrived at the fair yesterday including Jagriti Rammayo by Ahsan Habib, Megher Kabita by Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah, Nirmalendu Goon, Syfullah Ahmed Dulal and Shahid Kaderi, Paribartaner Chara by Nurul Huda, Muktijuddho Secret Diplomacy by Prof Abu Syeed, and Charar Mala by Nazia Jabeen.
